No Highs No Lows, it must be Bose! This has been a mantra in the sound industry for decades. Still, unknowing people with way too much money to spend, blow upsurd amounts of money on their home audio equipment, and their aviation headsets. Folks, the only reason you think Bose makes a good product is because Bose has brainwashed you and everyone else into thinking their products are superior. This absolutely couldn't be further from the truth. If you want to go out and blow a thousand dollars on a Bose headset that is wortheless in comparison to some sold here for a third less, then be my guest. But just know that you choose a label over your hearing! The decible value for Total Noise Reduction should be the biggest selling point among any manufacturer. We wonder why this is the only specification that Bose doesn't publish ANYWHERE! In fact, we could not find a single reliable published value of the Bose Aviation X headsets Total Noise Reduction. We estimate that it provides around 25 dB of Total Noise Reduction, which is almost a third less than some of the other leading headsets.

Our next target in the Headset shootdown is David Clark. They have perhaps the least innovative headsets in the industry, and with that disgusting sea green color that has plagued their headsets since the early sixties, we don't know why ANYONE would waste their money, or their sense of style. Furthermore, aircraft owners generally hate DC, because their proprietary plugs on their headsets are wider than standard headsets and over time, bends the metal connectors so that other headsets do not make contact when plugged in.

Who do we like!? Sennheiser and Telex wins our love, hands down! If you're looking for superior craftsmanship, style, excellent noise reduction, and ABSOLUTELY SUPERIOR COMFORT, then sennheiser is your brand of choice. Best of all, their headsets come with a ten year warranty! If your willing to sacrifice a little bit of quality (namely in the headband and ear cushion material), and are NOT suseptible to headaches when you wear things on your head, then Telex is the best brand. Both the Telex Stratus 50 D provides more total noise reduction than any other headset in the industry. Its a great looking headset, but it does hold onto your head like a vice so if sunglasses give you a headache, this isn't your headset. There is a cam adjustment on the side which alleviates some of the pressure but its minimal. Our choice headsets fall to either of the two Sennheiser headsets, followed by the Telex Stratus 30XT and 50 D.
