The Attitude Indicator™ Expert Review:
Our best advice with literature is to read everything the government publishes, and everything William Kershner published before he past away. The combination of these two different styles of knowledge, depth, and transfer, create one powerful dose of aviaiton goodness. All of the FAA books are great, ASA's test Prep books are phenomenal, and Kershner is a God of aviation. The Jeppesen books are very good as well, but they contain so much information, often completely impertinent to the things you need to know. We call it fluff, and students have a hard enough time sitting down and reading the meat, so we prefer the FAA books which completely cut out the fluff.

ASA Say Again Please Radio Communications
ASA Say Again Please Radio Communications Guide available only at San Diego Pilot Supplies!

Talking on an aviation radio and understanding air traffic control instructions can be one of the most intimidating aspects of flight training. Bob Gardner explains how the ATC system works and teaches readers what to say, what to expect to hear, and how to interpret and react to clearances and instructions. This new Third Edition adds material on GPS, Land and Hold Short Operations (LAHSO), and has been expanded and updated to reflect current rules and operating procedures. Chapters cover communication etiquette and rules, understanding radio equipment, emergency situations, and IFR communications and clearances. Also included: a concise summary of the FAA's communication facilities and their functions, airspace classifications and definitions, and the FAA's recommended shorthand for copying clearances. The communication requirements for entering, departing, and transiting each class of airspace is explained in detail by following the author along simulated flights. A full-color sectional excerpt is provided, so readers can review the map while reading the explanation for flying and talking in each area. Readers will learn everything they need to communicate effectively in VFR, IFR, and emergency conditions. Softcover, glossary and index, illustrated throughout, 208 pages, bound-in full color map sample included.

FAA Aircraft Weight and Balance Handbook
FAA Aircraft Weight and Balance Handbook available only at San Diego Pilot Supplies!

Weight and balance is one of the most important factors affecting safety of flight. An overweight aircraft, or one whose center of gravity is outside the allowable limits, is inefficient and dangerous to fly. The responsibility for proper weight and balance control begins with the engineers and designers and extends to the pilot who operates and the Aviation Maintenance Technician who maintains the aircraft. This book explains in detail the process to determine the weight and balance of any aircraft. This new edition, effective March 2007, has been updated to include information on new Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) and Very Light Jet (VLJ) categories. Applicable to both airplanes and helicopters, this book is a primary reference for all FAA Knowledge Exams for both pilots and mechanics. Soft cover, glossary, indexed, full-color illustrations, 8-3/8" x 10-7/8" format, 96 pages.

With the increased occurrence of regulatory changes, pilots must be aware of current procedures. This book covers all of the information needed to operate safely within the National Airspace System. In-depth sections on instrument charts and procedures cover all phases of flight from takeoff to landing, including safety of flight issues such as runway incursions and controlled flight into terrain (CFIT). Each topic covered is well-detailed and explained in user-friendly terms, along with full-color depictions to aid understanding. The Instrument Procedures Handbook was intended primarily as a technical reference for professional pilots. However, with the specialized glossary, index, full-color illustrations and photographs, flight instructors, instrument pilots and instrument students alike will find it a valuable training aid. The Commercial license preparation manual from Kershner's "The Flight Manuals Series." Bill Kershner believes that the average pilot could learn the basics of airplane performance very easily if the involved mathematics were bypassed. Therefore one of the purposes of this book is to bridge the gap between theory and practical application, covering the fundamentals of airplane Lift, Weight, Drag, and Thrust. If pilots know these basic principles of performance they will readily understand the effects of variable factors such as altitude and temperature on the operation of the aircraft. This manual's 21 chapters cover: Airplane performance and stability for pilots, Checking out in advanced models and types, Emergencies and unusual situations, Advanced navigation, High-altitude Operations, and Preparing for the commercial knowledge and practical tests.

Bob Gardner's textbooks have been in publication since 1985 and are continually updated and expanded to keep up with FAA regulations and procedures. Mr. Gardner writes in a conversational style that is readable and comprehensive, bringing the reader to a greater understanding of the material. All his books are reinforced by the caliber of personal experience that integrates "technique and procedures" with mastery. Many students prepare for the Commercial certificate and Instrument rating simultaneously, as a method to train efficiently, cut expenses, and expedite the process. This book combines these two phases in flight training to produce a seamless, effective method for efficient training. The best way to expedite the Instrument and Commercial certification process. Review questions follow each chapter. Foreword by Dave Gwinn. Soft cover, illustrated, glossary and index, 472 pages. "If the Airline Transport Pilot certificate is the Ph.D. of aviation, the Commercial and Instrument tickets represent the bachelor's and master's degrees." With this definition, Bob Gardner introduces The Complete Advanced Pilot, his textbook written for the many pilots who streamline their efforts by preparing for the instrument rating and the commercial certificate simultaneously. Taking and passing an FAA Knowledge Exam is required for the instrument rating and the commercial certificate. Using these tests as the premise for learning, Gardner applies practical information so readers are not only prepared for their exams, but also for the cockpit. He augments the required aeronautical knowledge by giving specific tips and techniques, checklists and mnemonic devices, and sound advice from personal experience. Each chapter concludes with sample questions taken directly from the FAA tests, and a comprehensive glossary and index are included as well as useful aviation website links. This practical application of the FAA Knowledge Exam is not available in any other text! With the author's approachable yet concise writing style, readers will be able to quickly grasp the subjects, pass the required tests and checkrides, and have an operational understanding of instrument flying and the commercial ticket that they can take to the cockpit.
